Requirements are simply that the children wear comfortable clothes, and long hair must be tied back. They will be given aprons to use during the course, and they will also be given their own recipe sheets so they can practice at home. All ingredients are provided.
What we aim to achieve by the end of the courses:
An increased awareness about the source and value of good food
A basic understanding of how food is grown and made
The ability to cook food that is appetising to children but also nutritious
A realisation of how much fun cooking can be
To children cooking is as fascinating as science. I remember very clearly watching a cake rise in a friend's house - they had an oven with a see-through door and we had an Aga, so this visibility was new to me. Much to my friend's mother's amusement I sat on the floor watching it for about half an hour until it was ready. I was utterly enthralled watching something that was just goo a few minutes previously, puff up in the heat into something edible. To encourage that kind of fascination is my main aim for my little students!
COURSES:
Classes will not run until 2008 due to extended maternity leave....I hope to see you next year.
